Year 9 pupils from WHSB take part in the "Take Your Child to Work Day"

This September, Year 9 pupils from WHSB took part in the "Take Your Child to Work Day," gaining first-hand insight into various UK industry sectors by shadowing their parents and carers. Meanwhile, other pupils stayed on site to take part in an equally engaging series of interactive workplace scenarios.

During the external placements, pupils observed core employability skills in professional environments, focusing on teamwork, communication, time management, and problem-solving. The experience spanned key UK sectors, including Digital and Technology, Financial Services, Legal and Professional Services, Public Services and Healthcare, Science and Engineering, and the Voluntary and Community Sectors.

For pupils remaining in School, an engaging interactive programme successfully recreated a professional workplace setting. Guest speakers James Currell from the NHS and Rhys Morton-Steer from Paul Robinson Solicitors led practical, work-based tasks throughout the day. These exercises helped to build the pupils’ confidence, develop a practical understanding of workplace expectations, and link current education to future career pathways.

The School extends its sincere thanks to the parents for their support on the day, to James Currell and Rhys Morton-Steer for dedicating their time and expertise, and to our Careers and Work-Related Learning Co-ordinator, Mr Atkinson for facilitating the event.
