Westcliff High School for Boys Welcomes Local Volunteers to Enrich Student's Experience

Westcliff High School for Boys was delighted to welcome nearly 40 professionals from our Alumni, the local and the wider community in support of its annual Year 10 Careers Enrichment Day. Pupils, aged 14-15 years old, spent the day off the usual School timetable, experiencing a vast array of careers-based topics, on a carousel basis. By the end of a very busy and productive day, each of the 180 boys had been given access to subjects and speakers, covering Investment Banking to Management Consultancy, Apprenticeships to Connexions, Journalism to Mindfulness, Law to Finance. In addition, every pupil attended two mock interviews, being questioned about their ability, experiences to date and career aspirations. The majority of the Interviewers had previously attended this event and such was their enthusiasm for the benefits this event offers the children, they could not be happier to revisit and assist once again.

Nicki Weller, WHSB Careers Advisor & Work Related Co-ordinator: "Following the success of this event in previous years, we could not have been more delighted and encouraged by the support from our Alumni, local and wider community for this annual enrichment event. Feedback from adults and students alike, was exceedingly positive and the information provided will assist our young people making informed decisions about their future career paths. I can not thank our volunteers enough for offering their time and expertise to our pupils".

Steve Wright, The Wright Learning : “I had a great day last Friday providing interview tips and techniques to Year 10 Boys at WHSB. I was inspired by how motivated the boys were to achieve their goals – it was a lesson for many of us adults!”
