Westcliff High School for Boys Pays Tribute to NHS and Key Workers

WHSB Pays Tribute to NHS and Key Workers

'Thank you NHS and other Key Workers' is the message from Westcliff High School for Boys.  Flags containing the iconic blue and white logo and a simple message of thanks fly from its three flagpoles at the front of the School in Kenilworth Gardens, Westcliff-on-Sea.  The flags symbolise the community spirit shown by so many people across the town during the Covid-19 crisis.
Headmaster Mike Skelly said: "The flags will be visible to those passing the School on their way to work at the hospital and in other key roles.  We hope this gesture will show our School Community's appreciation for those working so hard to keep the country going during these challenging times.  We are mindful that many of our former pupils and current parents are also working on the front line and I am so grateful to the WHSB Parents' Association and the Old Westcliffian Association who offer tremendous support to the School and have sponsored these flags, joining our staff and pupils in expressing our gratitude”.
The School, like others throughout the UK, has remained open for children of NHS staff and other key workers since the start of the lock-down on 20 March, and that has continued throughout the Easter holiday period. Staff have adapted quickly and pupils studying at home have settled well into timetabled lessons online, with virtual lectures and video conferencing now becoming the norm during term time.  A weekly e-bulletin keeps students, staff and parents updated with School news, suggested resources and virtual extra-curricular activities, together with interesting articles aimed at boosting the morale of the entire School Community during difficult days.
Staff and pupils at Westcliff High School for Boys have been offering support to workers at Southend University Hospital by making protective visors using the School’s Technology equipment, and by baking for the hard-working medical staff.
