Westcliff High School for Boys joined in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day

Today, Westcliff High School for Boys joined in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day, beginning at 9.00am this morning with the raising of an official flag to mark the 80th year since the end of the Second World War in Europe. The School's Combined Cadet Force, comprising its Army, Navy and RAF contingents, together with pupils, staff and representatives from WHSB’s Alumni and Parents' Associations came together for a ceremony as part of a nationwide programme of events marking this important milestone in history.

This was also a day of commemoration and, at midday, the School observed a two-minute silence, in remembrance of all those who fought and the many millions who died securing the victory, and the freedoms we enjoy today.
