We are delighted that our talented Upper Sixth student engineers have achieved outstanding success in the prestigious Industrial Cadets Gold Award. This national industry-led accreditation programme for work readiness in STEM is run by the Engineering Development Trust for older students attending secondary schools and colleges throughout the UK.

Beginning in the Lower Sixth, WHSB’s team dedicated over 70 hours towards designing and building Armadon, an autonomous, non-lethal Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) sentry designed to patrol designated areas independently. Working alongside industry mentors from Leonardo, the students produced a detailed technical report and a working prototype before pitching their project to an expert judging panel from Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, and Boeing.

The team’s exceptional engineering work earned them graduation as Industrial Gold Cadets, alongside taking second place for Project of the Year and winning the prestigious Business Pitch Award. The judging panel was highly impressed by the sophistication of the project, noting in their formal feedback that the mechanical design, simulation, and analysis were frequently at university degree level.

We are incredibly proud of our students' dedication, creativity, and technical brilliance, and we congratulate Abdullah, Ethan, Edward, Nova, Lukas, and Mini on their exceptional achievement.
