Pupils from Westcliff High School for Boys are National Finalists in the 2025 UKMT Team Maths Challenge

Following an impressive series of regional competitions involving 677 teams in this year's UK Maths Trust (UKMT) Team Maths Challenge, just 72 teams from 65 UK schools earned their place in the national final which took place in June at the Royal Horticultural Hall in Westminster, London. Students travelled from as far away as the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands to take part in this exciting event. In addition, seven international teams from China were welcomed to the competition following the UKMT's collaboration with ASEEDER.

The day was filled with energy and inspiration, with WHSB's pupils Kevin and Aqeeb (Year 😎 and Jason and Logan (Year 9) all working exceptionally well as a team achieving strong scores in the Maths Circus and Cross-Number rounds. They were also long listed for the Poster Round, which involved designing a mathematical poster on the theme of Geometry in Plants.

It was a fantastic day that highlighted the ingenuity and enthusiasm of young mathematicians from throughout the UK and beyond. We are extremely proud of our team for winning their place in the final and for competing throughout the series of prestigious UKMT challenges at both regional and national level. With thanks to Miss James for facilitating the School's entry to the competition, and to Michael in Year 12 for his help with preparing the team.
