BFI Southbank Visit

Upper and Lower Sixth French A Level students enjoyed a stimulating day at the BFI on the South Bank on 1 December. During the morning session, which was conducted entirely in French, the students discovered the New Wave in French cinema. Through comparing five New Wave classics, including Au Bout de Souffle and Les 400 Coups, with more recent films including La Haine and Amélie, students could clearly see the influence that great directors such as François Truffaut are still having on contemporary film makers.

After lunch the students enjoyed a screening of Entre Les Murs, the 2008 winner of the Palme d'Or, which puts modern French society and the purpose of education under the microscope. It was a wonderful opportunity to see this thought-provoking film on the big screen. Thanks to Mrs Joy Williams for organising this fantastic experience for our students.
