Final of the Giles Wilson Mooting Competition

Before the Christmas holiday break, the School took part in the Final of the Giles Wilson Mooting Competition at the Court House in Southend. WHSB was represented by Tessa and Daniel (both Upper Sixth) who had argued a bail hearing case in the first round, and a theft and criminal damage case in the second. This was their hardest test yet: defending against a defamation claim. Their performance was outstanding, presenting clear logical arguments, which were tightly structured and demonstrated command of relevant case law.

In the final analysis, the judging panel - a senior judge from Chelmsford, a barrister, and a partner at Giles Wilson – gave the victory to WHSG, however acknowledged that the Defence had the harder job given the case details, and praised Tessa and Daniel for achieving second place, and for their innovative argument and impressive command of relevant case law. Congratulations to them both.

This is a superb competition and we are grateful to Giles Wilson for holding it once again and for providing two of our aspiring lawyers with the opportunity to explore the law and to demonstrate their skills in advocacy. With thanks to Mr Stevens for facilitating WHSB's entry to the competition.
