Westcliff High School for Boys Deliver the Joy of Science

WHSB Deliver the Joy of Science

Sixth form students (aged 16-17 years) at Westcliff High School for Boys have been extremely busy throughout this year, visiting local primary schools each week and introducing the love of Science to Year 5 boys and girls. The Science Roadshow team attend a number of schools within the priority area of SS0-SS9, encouraging children to engage with this subject, via their own enthusiasm for Science.

To date this academic year they have been welcomed by Chalkwell Hall Junior School, Darlinghurst, Earls Hall, Bournes Green, Grove Wood, Fairways and Edwards Hall Primary Schools. Every Wednesday afternoon, Dr Machacek, Assistant Head and his trusty team, arrive at their designated school with a minibus full of equipment, ready to demonstrate the wonders of secondary school Science. The objective is to excite the students and ignite their enquiring minds, with visual displays of supervised scientific experiments. Unsurprisingly, there is always a waiting list for schools requesting a return visit which we try to accommodate as best as we can.

Quotes:

Dr Anton Machacek, WHSB Assistant Head: "Our School is blessed with many talented and enthusiastic Sixth Form scientists, and it is super that they wish to share their knowledge and excitement of Science with Year 5 pupils.  Their work is inspirational, and it is always a pleasure to see Year 5 pupils enjoying using microscopes, performing flame tests, building electric circuits and learning how wings work."
